Why travel through the Nether?
Every block walked in the Nether covers 8 blocks of the Overworld. A trip of 8,000 blocks becomes 1,000 blocks in the Nether, so a short Nether tunnel can replace a very long Overworld journey.
Planning a Nether hub
A hub is a central Nether area with tunnels to all your portals. Put the hub near Nether 0 / 0 (or under your main base) and run straight tunnels along X or Z to each portal. Blue ice with a boat is the fastest common way to travel.
How to use the nether hub calculator
- Enter the Overworld X and Z of your start and your destination.
- Compare the travel times and the blocks saved.
- Build Nether portals at the coordinates shown and connect them with a tunnel.
